Gulf Air is the flag carrier of the Kingdom of Bahrain, based in Muharraq in Bahrain International Airport.

Gulf Air booking offers a diversity of classes where Baggage Allowance varies from one to another with three main types of baggage.

 

Check-in Baggage

  • If you are a Falcon Gold passenger, you are allowed with 2 pieces of luggage up to 32kgs per piece.

  • If you are a Falconflyer member Falcon Gold redemption ticket, you also get to carry 2 pieces of luggage up to 32kgs each

  • If you book on Gulf Air Economy Friendly and Economy Freedom fare families, you can check-in 2 pieces of hand baggage up to 23kgs each.

  • If you are a Falconflyer member redemption tickets in Economy class, you also get to carry 2 pieces of luggage up to 23kgs each.

  • If you would like to save money, then you can book your trip on Deal and Basic Economy family fares which would allow you to carry 1 piece of hand baggage up to 23kgs.

  • Your hand baggage must not exceed 95 x 75 x 45cm.

  • Gulf Air offers some exceptions for Economy Class passengers for certain routes.

 

For all Economy class fare families, you are allowed to check-in 2 pieces of hand baggage at 23kgs each for the following routes:

  • Flights from Bahrain, Dammam to Iraq and vice-versa.

  • Flights from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, United Arab Emirates to Jordan, Lebanon and vice-versa.

  • Flights from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, United Arab Emirates to Morocco, Turkey and vice-versa.

  • Flights from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Lebanon to India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and vice-versa.

  • Flights from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Lebanon, Greece to the Philippines and vice-versa.

  • Flights from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, United Arab Emirates to Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia and vice-versa.

Falconflyer Members

  • Falconflyer has three different membership tier level which will receive additional free of charge baggage allowance:

  • If you are a Black member, you are allowed to hold 1 piece of luggage up to 32kgs.

  • If you are a Gold member, you are allowed to carry 1 piece of baggage up to 23kgs.

-If you are a Silver member, you are allowed to travel with 1 piece of baggage up to 15kgs.

 

Cabin Baggage

  • If you book on Falcon Gold, you are allowed to hold 1 piece of cabin bag and 1 briefcase of 9kgs max and which must not exceed 55 x 40 x 30cm.

  • If you book on Economy Class, you are allowed to carry 1 piece of cabin baggage at 6kgs max with max dimensions of 45 x 40 x 30cm. 

 

Your private items

You are entitled to carry besides your complimentary Cabin Baggage Allowance other stuff like:

  • Infant's food.

  • Small camera.

  • Collapsible wheelchair.

  • Laptop/personal computer.

Smart Bags

  • You can carry smart bags that are charged with lithium batteries/power banks whether within your Checked-in Baggage or Cabin Baggage, if it is only consistent with the following conditions: 

  • If the battery can be removed and carried in the cabin.

  • If the weight and size are suitable and permitted, and the battery is removable.


 

Excess Baggage

  • You need to pay an extra charge for any Excess Baggage over your free Baggage Allowance.

  • You can either buy prepaid excess baggage online or by visiting your local Gulf AIr office at discounted rates or through the airport at reasonable prices by Gulf Air Customer Service staff.

  • Excess Baggage rates depend on the origin and destination within the whole Gulf Air network, if you choose a flight operated by Gulf Air.

Pay with Miles Option

  • Gulf Air offers the passengers the option to buy excess baggage using Gulf Air Falconflyer miles.

  • Economy Class passengers are allowed to carry in multiples of 23kgs per piece and for Falcon Gold Class you are allowed to carry 32kgs per piece.

Terms and conditions of Excess Baggage

1. Prepaid excess baggage is only available on flights operated by Gulf Air.

2. Regular excess baggage rates apply in the airport as prepaid excess baggage rates are not available.

3. If your checked-in baggage is beyond your baggage allowance and prepaid excess baggage, you will be charged at regular airport rate.

4. Changes to your purchased baggage allowance can be made up to 24 hours before your departure time.

5. The passenger is not permitted to transfer the purchased excess baggage to another passenger.

6. The purchased prepaid excess baggage is valid for one year.

7. Gulf Air will not make a refund, if you voluntarily cancel your booking or your prepaid baggage allowance. 

8. Gulf Air makes a refund only if it caused the cancellations from its side.

Gulf Air Codeshare flights runned by American Airlines to and from the USA or Canada offers a different and special Baggage Allowance 

 

For the Falcon Gold Class 

  • You are allowed to carry 2 hand baggage with max dimensions of 158cms and max weight of 32kgs for each.

 

For the Economy Class

  • You are permitted to bring 2 checked-in baggage with max dimensions for both together 273cms and a max weight of 23kgs for each.

  • For baggage that exceed 23kgs in weight but less than 32kgs, you will be charged with overweight fees of SAR187.52.

  • If you are willing to carry an extra baggage over your free allowance, you will get charged according to American Airlines policy found on their official website.

 

Infants Passengers

  • Your infant is allowed to have 1 hand baggage with max dimensions of 158cms and max weight of 23kgs.

 

Issued Gulf Air tickets on other Airlines to/from the USA and Canada

Your free baggage allowance will depend on how many pieces of luggage you are capable of carrying and the max weight per each piece when you purchase a Gulf Air ticket to/from the USA or Canada for a flight runned by different airline.

 

Issued Gulf Air tickets on other Airlines except the USA and Canada

The baggage allowance policy of the operating airline will apply when you purchase a Gulf Air ticket connected to a flight operated by a non Gulf Air codeshare partner.

 

  • You need to make sure to know the different policies of each airline to plan accordingly, by referring back to the official website to keep you updated on your baggage allowance and any possible charges while applying IATA rates on any luggage that exceeds the standard baggage allowance.

Irregular Baggage

  • Gulf Air allows you to carry irregular baggage, sporting equipment or musical instruments within your free baggage allowance.

  • If your irregular baggage exceeds your free allowance, you will be charged with standard excess baggage charges.

  • Your special baggage item must be 32kgs in weight and with max dimensions of 190 x 75 x 65 cm.

  • You are allowed to carry the following pieces:

  • TVs: You can pack a TV of 50 inches max within your hand baggage.

  • If you are carrying a larger size, it could be shipped through cargo service.

  • Musical Instruments: You are not allowed to carry any musical instruments, unless it is packed in a specially designed travel bag and suitably protected.

  • Fishing equipment: You can only carry two rods, one reel, one pair of fishing boots, one tackle and one landing net.

  • SCUBA Diving Equipment: It should include one empty cylinder tank with one removed regulator and valves in the open position, a tank pressure gauge, a mask, snorkel, a pair of fins, buoyancy control device, and a disconnected diving lamp.

  • Golf Clubs: Your golf bag must be 15kgs max. in weight to be carried for free besides your baggage allowance. You are allowed to bring one especially designed golf travel bag including one set of clubs, balls, one pair of golf shoes and one umbrella.

  • Gulf Air makes sure to ease for you the process of carrying all your musical instruments and your sporting equipment but for some operating restrictions that might occasionally happen, it might not be able to transport it for you. Prohibited items on Gulf Air aircraft

Each airline ensures the safety and the comfort of its passengers on the aircraft, that is why Gulf Air has determined some safety regulations on what to carry onboard whether within your Hand or Cabin Baggage.

  • The prohibited items onboard are compressed gases, flammable liquids, poisons, disabling devices, radioactive materials and petrol-operated equipment.

  • Passengers are not allowed on Gulf Air aircraft to bring any small vehicles that work on lithium, or spare lithium batteries for portable electronic devices and safety matches.

  • Other items can be removed from your Baggage by the Gulf Air personnel or Airport Authorities, if it represents a threat to the aircraft safety, such as the following items, but not limited to, firearms, knives and tools like hammers.

  • As per EU regulation, the prohibited items are the following:

  • For your Checked-in, you are not allowed to transfer explosives and incendiary substances and devices that would cause serious injury or a threat to the safety of the aircraft, such as detonators and fuses, mines, grenades and other military explosives, fireworks and plastic explosives.

  • Cabin baggage has the same restricted items, in addition to guns, firearms, stunning devices and items with a sharp edge.

Tips for Gulf Air reservation

  • A student is only eligible to carry extra baggage if he showed a valid university ID card.

  • If he does not have his student IDs yet, he will be allowed to use the additional baggage allowance once he shows a valid university acceptance letter and/or student visa at the check-in counter. 

  • This service is only applied on flights operated by Gulf-Air.

 1- What if I lost any of my baggage or it has been damaged, how can I make a claim for it?

You are eligible to claim for your lost luggage by submitting your Passenger Irregularity Report only after 21 days max of its date of issuance to any Gulf Air office.

You can claim for your damaged baggage by submitting your issued damage report to the closest Gulf Air office or through filling in the Feedback and Query form online

 

 2- What if I forgot something onboard the aircraft, how can I get it back?

You can reach any Gulf Air office to ask for it, as Gulf Air airlines manages to collect any found properties and leave it to the Security Department and registered.

 

 3- Do infants have a specific baggage allowance?

Yes, definitely they get their own baggage allowance.

-If your infant is under 2 years old, he is allowed 1 piece of hand baggage of 15kgs max with a stroller and an infant car seat.

-If your child is aged 2 years/older, he is allowed with the same checked baggage allowance as yours, in addition to a collapsible child’s stroller and a car seat.

 

4- Do I have a limited quantity for carrying liquids?
