The view/location was fantastic. A short trip from the airport and walking distance to the main street for public transport. Friendly staffing with many organized activities. The buffet was good with seemily endless options. In house restaurants had better quality meals. And having a ocean side bar serving ample drink options was very luxurious.
Only downsides noted were room service and music. The room service could use some work, felt/tasted of prison food. They played very loud music at the pool area for hours throughout the day which dampened our relaxing holiday, it's was difficult to escape the noise.
Overall a 8/10 visit, and would come again.
Small, but beautiful and ultra-clean property with ample dining options. The beach is to die for. I liked the way the whole property was built at an elevated level. It allowed the multi level pools and great view from hotel grounds. Rooms are of good size with nice view. The gym is nicely equipped. Hotel coordinates nice pool and beach activities. The New Year’s Eve party was simply fantastic.
Few improvement areas :
Inclusion of more salad options is desired.
Keep your jacuzzi warmer.
More training for some front desk employees in how to be more helpful to your customers. I made a room change request for better view. It never happened during an 7-night stay and I expected your staff to be more creative. This reduced the rating to 4 star. BTW, David (manager) and Carlos were very pleasant.
My family and I had a great time at Sandos. The pools were breathtaking and the staff was beyond nice and welcoming.
The rooms were very spacious and comfortable for 3 people. I loved the food at the buffet, i tend to get sick at all inclusive resorts but this was not the case at Sandos.
The resort is small and intimate which we really enjoyed. The property is clean and has a few convenient spots across. My only recommendation would be to book all excursions at La Isla rather than at the hotel where they charge 3x more.
My experience at Sandos Cancun was beyond disappointing—it was terrible. The hotel fell far short of expectations and did not deserve its advertised 5-star rating. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this was not what we had signed up for. The pool was dirty, the ice maker didn’t work, the TV was broken, and everything about the property felt outdated. The food was not only low-quality but had very limited options. On top of that, our room was dirty, the bathroom toilet door was problematic, and the bed was uncomfortably hard.
What made it even worse was the beachfront CANCÚN sign. Unlike the photos in the advertisements, it was broken, rusted, and shoved off to the side, which felt emblematic of the entire experience—nothing was as promised. The lobby also had a bad odor that was unpleasant to deal with.
The chief concierge, Stefano Rayo, assured me that he would contact Expedia and confirm the six-night refund. However, I received multiple emails from Expedia stating that Sandos had denied the refund, even though Expedia pushed for flexibility. Feeling ripped off and desperate, I had to spend an extra $2,500 to book another hotel on the same day. Thankfully, I found one with a single availability, but this added to the stress and cost of my trip.
The buffet service was another disaster. One day at lunch, the tables didn’t even have towels or utensils set. We had to ask, and the waiter brought what looked like paper towels from the bathroom—completely unacceptable.
Let me start of by saying this is a small hotel compared to the megaplexes that loom over the beaches of Cancun. However, an overall nice hotel. It’s a little older and the building shows. It is a very clean hotel, lobby, bathrooms, rooms, restaurants.
The pool area has two levels, both pools are clean, and are kept clean. I mostly stayed on the upper deck pool, as it was mostly vacant, which was nice. However, that means that the bartenders walking around the pool, didn’t it make over there quite often. The drinks are good.
Check in was smooth, you have the opportunity to check in online before you arrive at the hotel. Reception was phenomenal, excellent service, always willing to assist. I had some issues with the safe and the hot water, and they were quick to get someone to assist me, and maintenance followed up right away. The hot water was mainly that I didn’t know how to work the lever.
I was not very happy that I was accosted by concierge right away, and this is were my overall experience was affected. The gentleman who assisted me made it known right away that I would not be made privy or acesss to some of the exclusive “members only privilege”. They asked who I booked with and I booked with Hotels.com. Guest are differentiated by red and blacks bands, the red ones being the lesser ones. The black bands have access to an exclusive bar by the pool lounge area. This small experience put somewhat of a damper because your left feeling like a second class citizen.
We were lead to believe it was an adults only property, it was not. Other than that mixup, we enjoyed our stay.
The food was not really that great. We tried all restaurants except for Seasons, which was fully booked when we tried. The Italian place was truly awful, St.Trop near the pool was decent but the staff was so rude that we didn't return after our second visit. Pizza there was OK as well. We kept just returning to the buffet as nothing else was very satisfying, except for the teppanyaki which was quite fun and fresh.
The pool, beach and staff were all terrific and made our stay worthwhile. The room was spacious, clean and had great views.
We probably wouldn't return to Sandos as there wasn't anything that stood out as truly amazing and something we 'must do' again - although we did enjoy our week there.
