About Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines is the national flag carrier airline of Turkey. It serves more destinations non-stop from a single airport, and flies to 126 countries, more than any other airline, with an operational fleet of 24 cargo aircraft.

The airline has been a member of the Star Alliance network since 1 April 2008.

Turkish Airlines baggage policy 

Checked-in luggage

  • Passengers are required to use the airline’s baggage calculator to check the allowance for specific journeys.

  • Infant passengers are entitled to hold a piece of baggage weighing10 kgs on each flight and 23kgs on flights under the piece baggage application. 

  • Additionally, strollers with size that does not exceed 115cms are allowed on all flights.

  • Child passengers have the same baggage allowance as adult passengers. 


Hand Baggage

  • Passengers are required to use the airline’s baggage calculator to check the allowance for specific journeys.

  • Economy Class passengers are entitled to carry one hand luggage with a maximum weight of 8kgs and maximum dimensions of 23x40x55 cm.

  • Business Class passengers are allowed to carry two carry-on bags with a maximum weight of 8kgs for each.


Excess baggage

  • Passengers are asked to use baggage calculation tool to examine destination-based registered baggage rights and find out their extra baggage fees.

  • Pieces included on flights within the piece concept cannot exceed a maximum of 23kgs. 

  • If the weight exceeds 23kgs, an extra charge of 301SAR applies.

  • If one baggage exceeds 32kgs, it must be divided and carried in two or more pieces, regardless of the weight and piece concept.

  • Infants are allowed for all flights and both Economy and Business Classes to hold 1 piece of Cabin luggage of 8kgs max in weight.


Traveling with Pets

  • The passenger should make and confirm reservations no later than 6 hours before flight departure time in order to transport a live animal.

  • The pet can only be carried in the cabin section, if it does not exceed 8kgs in weight and the cage does not exceed 23cm x 30cm x 40cm in size.

Sports equipment and musical instruments

  • Sports equipment is only accepted as checked baggage and carried in aircraft hold. 

  • There are no special fees on equipment not included in the sports equipment list, and which is considered as checked baggage.

  • The equipment should be carried in its special case package to prevent damage.

  • The sports equipment list includes:

  • Bicycles.

  • Golf bags.

  • Archery equipment.

  • Surfing equipment.

  • Diving equipment.

  • Skiing equipment.

  • Small musical instruments like guitars, saz etc. with total dimensions that do not exceed 118 cms (width+length+height) can be transported in cabin free of charge.

  • Large instruments like contrabass can be carried as checked baggage and should be delivered in a durable hard case.

Restricted Items 

  • Turkish Airlines is always keen on providing its passengers with the maximum levels of safety and comfort on their flights. Therefore, it prohibited dangerous materials onboard in accordance with international flight regulations.

  • The following list includes some of what cannot be carried within your cabin and checked baggage:

  • Firearms, sharp items, and flammable materials.

  • Personal self-defense items.

  • Foldable wheelchairs and movement aids with batteries or lithium-ion batteries.
