Libyan Arab Airlines (LAA) is the national carrier for Libya. The company headquarter is located in Tripoli. The company was firstly established in 1964, and it is totally owned by the government of Libya. The company operates scheduled flights to local destinations and different international destinations including Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa to the variety of cities such as Beirut, Cairo, Tunis, Geneva, London, Paris, Athens, and Rome. Its Main hub is Tripoli Airport, and another backup airport in Benghazi. The company also offers Hajj trips.
The company started with an investment of 2 LYD million in 1964, while in 2007 the airline became a subsidiary of Libyan Afriqiyah Aviation Holding Company (LAAHC) side by side with “Afriqiyah Airways”, in 2010 a merge between the two companies which already have the code share was conducted.
Libyan Airlines has developed and expanded its fleet to meet the requirements of the modern world that in 2007 the company signed (MOU) for 15 new aircraft of the Airbus type. Lately the company made new agreements with manufacturers such as Bombardier and ATR for new aircrafts, also included new destinations in its scheduled flights to: Belgrade, Prague, Amsterdam,, Bucharest, Budapest, Frankfurt, Madrid, Milan, Istanbul, Moscow, Sofia, Vienna, Zurich, Warsaw, Karachi, Khartoum, Kuwait, and Algiers.
