Hong Kong Express Airways is a hong-kong based low-cost airline partly owned by the mainland Chinese HNA group. The company was incorporated on March 10th 2004, and was owned by Macau casino entrepreneur Stanley Ho until Hong Kong’s official helicopter operator Heli Hong Kong announced its plans to start operations via Hong Kong Express to become Hong Kong’s Fourth national airline.
In the Year 2005, the airline was given permission to transport passengers, cargo and mail from Hong Kong to selected destinations in China and the airline received it’s Air Operator Certificate in July 2005.
The Airline started using Embraer 170 on charter services to Taichung, the Republic of China on September 3rd, 2005.
Passenger services began to Guangzhou on the 8th of September 2005, then services expanded to include Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Ningbo.
HNA Group, the mother company of Hainan airlines announced that it will acquire a 45 percent stake in Hong Kong Express. This agreement situated the airline as a registered airline in Hong Kong.
