flydubai airlines is a budget airline in Dubai, United Arab Emirates owned by the government with its headquarters in Terminal 2 of Dubai International Airport. 

Flydubai began operations in 2009, with its first flight to Beirut, Lebanon on the 1st of June 2009.

The airline operates entirely out of Dubai over 90 destinations, serving Africa, Europe, Central Asia, the GCC, Middle East,Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia, employing more than 4.000 people from 128 countries.

Overview over flydubai Baggage Policy

flydubai provides its passengers with two types of classes with different baggage allowance for each.

 

flydubai Checked Baggage Allowance

  • When you book your flight on Economy Class, you can check-in up to 3 pre-paid baggage, with a maximum weight of 20kgs. 

  • For more baggage allowance, flydubai might give you the chance to prepay for checked baggage that weighs 30kgs or 40kgs, if enough space is available on your flight.

  • When you book your flight on Business Class, you are permitted to check 3 pieces of luggage with a maximum weight for all bags of 40kgs.

  • If you select any of these two classes, this rule applies:

  • The maximum weight of each piece of luggage must not exceed 32kgs in weight, or 75 cm x 55 cm x 35 cm in dimensions.

  • If you have an infant, you are allowed to carry 1 piece of hold baggage with a maximum weight of 10kgs, only if it is within your flight fare.

 

Checked Baggage shape rules

  • Your hold baggage must have at least one flat surface with tied straps.

  • The items must not be tied together, and must carry a tag with your name, full address and telephone number.

  • If you have an irregular-shaped checked baggage, you must put it into a box with dimensions not exceeding 75 cm x 55 cm x 35 cm.

  • The baggage must not contain any valuable items or documents, e.g., money, jewellery, business documents or passports.

 

flydubai Hand Baggage Allowance

  • If you booked your flight on Economy Class, you are allowed to check-in 1 piece of hand baggage with a maximum weight 7kgs.

  • You are permitted to have onboard one duty free shopping bag or one laptop bag/ personal small bag with maximum dimensions of 25 cm x 33 cm x 20cm.

  • If you booked your trip on Business Class, you are permitted to have a maximum of two pieces of hand baggage with a total weight of 14kgs.

  • If you selected any of these two classes, the following rules apply:

  • Each piece must not exceed 55 cm x 38 cm x 20 cm, so it can be fitted in the overhead cabin or under the seat.

  • If the baggage exceeds flydubai allowance, you can check it in within your checked baggage allowance and excess baggage rates may apply.

  • If you have an infant, you are allowed to carry 1 piece of hand baggage with a maximum weight of 5kgs, and a maximum dimension of 55 cm x 38 cm x 20 cm, to be fitted in the overhead cabin or under the seat, only if it is within your flight fare.

  • If you are travelling with smart bags, it can be carried as checked and hand baggage unless it is compatible with flydubai requirements which you can read about through flydubai special baggage page.

 

flydubai Excess Baggage Allowance 

  • You are allowed to purchase extra baggage per kilo with specific airport rates.

  • The cost of a kilo is calculated according to what zone you are flying to and from as following:

flydubai Special Baggage

Wheelchairs working on batteries and other mobility support aids

  • Only travelling passengers with restricted mobility are permitted to bring battery-powered wheelchair or any other mobility support onboard, which will be accepted as cost free baggage allowance, if it has been prepared for transport as per the Conditions of carriage.

  • If you are travelling with any kind of mobility aids, you need to contact flydubai contact center on +971 600  54 44 45 or simply tell your travel agent 2 days ahead of your scheduled flight departure time.

Musical Instrument

  • You may be only permitted to bring a small musical instrument which will be considered as hand baggage, if it is maximum dimensions meet flydubai restrictions.

  • If you have a valuable musical instrument exceeding size and weight allowances, it will be carried as hand baggage but you will need to buy an extra seat, if available in the same class.

  • If the space in the cargo hold compartment is sufficient enough to carry a large musical instrument, you are allowed to check it in as checked baggage.

 

Televisions

  • Televisions are only allowed to be checked in as checked baggage if its maximum size is 55 inches.

  • Most airports only accept 32 inches TVs for carriage. 

  • For previous plans, check the rules and regulations of airports of your destinations.

  • There is a fee of SAR262.52/ USD 70 per unit to pay when you check-in at the airport if you are only flying from Dubai to Addis Ababa, to Khartoum or to Port Sudan.

 

Animals

  • The animals are not allowed onboard whether as hand baggage or checked baggage.

  • You may only be able to transport falcons but with a previous permission.

  • The option of having a service animal only works on Emirates marketed flights to the USA and Europe, and this service is not available on flights operated within flydubai destinations.

 

Sporting Equipment 

  • Any sporting equipment item must not exceed 20kgs.

  • flydubai permission of any item carriage depends on space availability onboard.

  • To guarantee a space, please contact flydubai at least 1 day earlier to your departure flight.

  • If your equipment does not meet the size requirements, flydubai may accept carrying it for extra fees.

Forbidden Items onboard 

flydubai specifies certain items that you are not supposed to carry, for instance:

  • Items which would threaten airplanes or people's safety.

  • Animals.

  • Illegal items in the origin or destination countries.

  • Lithium batteries.

Items prohibited to pack in your Checked Baggage:

  • Fragile and destructible items. 

  • Money and jewellery.

  • Electronic devices.

  • Any medication needed onboard.

  • Personal documents.

  • For safety purposes, flydubai does not allow you to carry onboard hoverboards and lithium powered items whether as checked or cabin baggage.

Portable electronic devices 

  • If you have packed an electronic device in your checked baggage, it must be switched off.

  • You are only permitted to bring e-cigarette on the aircraft, if it is packed in your hand baggage not your checked baggage.

Benefit of our helpful tips when booking flydubai 

1- What happens if I have not purchased yet a baggage allowance right before my departure flight?

If you have not purchased yet your baggage allowance, you will have to pay a per kilo rate, if there is sufficient space for your bags.

You can get a discount if you only bought your checked baggage allowance up to 4 hours prior departure whether online or by flydubai customer care.

 

2- What if my baggage is overweight?

If your luggage is overweight, you will pay a per kilo standard rates putting into consideration your destination.

 

3- Am I allowed to carry Zamzam water onboard?

For Jeddah, Madinah and Taif, you are permitted to carry up to 5 litres of Zamzam water as checked baggage along with your standard baggage allowance.

For other cities rather than the above previously mentioned, you are allowed to bring up to 5 litres as part of your baggage allowance.

 

4- What procedures do I need to take if I lose my baggage? Do I get compensated if I did not get it back?

If you did not get back your lost luggage for more than 21 days, you can send an email to baggageservices@flydubai.com with the reference number from your missing baggage report, a scanned copy of the report, your contact number and your booking reference.

- flydubai will definitely compensate you by paying to replace your baggage and its contents up to a set amount.

5- What measurements do I need to take if my baggage got delayed? Do I get compensation when having a delay?

If your baggage got delayed, you need to notify the flydubai desk at the airport.

-Your handling agent will contact you if your baggage showed up within 5 days.

-If it took them more than 5 days to get it back to you, the baggage services team will take control and contact you when found.

-Your baggage will be considered lost if it has not been found after 21 days.

Yes, you will receive compensation as a flydubai voucher in total of USD50 or SAR187.51 for each day of delay with a maximum of 3 delay days.
