Emirates Checked Baggage

1. Weight concept 

  • This option is applicable on all routes, except when traveling to and from the Americas destination and traveling originated in Africa.

  • If you would like to choose your seat on Economy Class, your baggage allowance will vary as per Economy Class fares and your ticket issued date as shown in the following table:

  • You are allowed to carry 25 kgs on Economy Special for flights between UAE and India.

Checked Baggage Size for Piece concept

  • You are allowed to carry a checked baggage with maximum dimensions of 150cms.

  • If your item dimensions exceed the standard size to a maximum of 300cms, you will pay an extra fee. If the item size exceeds 300cms, the baggage will not be checked in and will be sent as cargo or freight.

 

Emirates Cabin Baggage 

  • Your cabin baggage allowance is based on your itinerary choice, class of travel and Emirates Skywards membership level.

  • The amount of cabin baggage you are allowed to bring is calculated as per which service class you are flying on.

  • If you would like to fly on First Class or Business Class, you will be permitted to carry 2 pieces of cabin luggage, one briefcase in addition to 1 handbag or 1 garment bag.

  • Your briefcase must be with a maximum size of 45 x 35 x 20cm and the handbag must be 55 x 38x 20cm and a folded garment cannot exceed 20cms.

  • If you would like to fly on Economy Class, you will be permitted to carry 1 piece of cabin baggage with maximum dimensions of 55 x 38 x 20 cm and with a maximum weight of 7kgs.

  • If you are transporting powders or liquids inside your cabin baggage, you will be limited to certain constraints, such as the following,

  • Liquid limitations on hand baggage is applicable on all customers travelling from or transiting through Dubai International Airport.

  • If your flight is from or through the United States or Australia and New Zealand, you are not allowed to carry powders in a 350ml or over container in your cabin baggage nor in your carry-on possessions.

Emirates baggage allowances for Infants

  • If you are travelling with an infant, you are permitted to carry one piece of checked-in luggage of 55 x 38 x 20 cm in size and a maximum weight of 23kgs in any class of service.

  • If your child does not have a seat, you are allowed to take one carry-cot or one collapsible stroller into your cabin if it fits. If these items do not fit, they must be checked with a limitation to your standard baggage allowance.

  • Baggage allowance will vary depending on your route if you are taking an infant less than 2 years old.

  • For all itineraries, except flights to and from destinations in the Americas and flights begun from Africa, you are only allowed to check in 1 cabin bag of 22x15x8 cm maximum in size and 5kgs maximum in weight and 1 checked baggage up to 10kgs in weight.

  • For all routes to and from the Americas and flights originated in Africa, you are permitted to carry 1 cabin bag with a maximum size of 22x15x8 and a maximum weight of 5kgs along with 1 checked in baggage with a max size and weight of 115 cm and 23kgs.

 

Sports equipment and musical instruments

  • If you are carrying any sports equipment or musical instruments, it will be limited to the standard size and weight constraints of any cabin baggage.

  • You are also capable of purchasing an independent seat to transport these items.

  • Some musical instruments carriage might be limited to specific conditions and regulations, you can always contact any of Emirates local offices and find out.

 

Prohibited items 

  • Your cabin baggage items are restricted to international guidelines to guarantee the security of aircraft and passengers onboard, like items that may threaten their safety can be transported and suitably packed as checked baggage as per as IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations and related Emirates regulations.

  • These items may involve, but are not limited to:

  • Scissors, any kind of knives, laser pointers, darts, real weapons or toys shaped weapons and explosives.

Personal vehicles working on motors 

  • Emirates does not allow personal vehicles carriage as checked-in baggage or cabin baggage, such as, hoverboards and mini-Segways as they contain lithium batteries.

  • You can purchase excess baggage allowance in different ways, whether through Emirates official website, or check-in desks at the airport in local currency, or by prepaying to Emirates offices according to the exchange rate on the same day.

 

Online purchase process

  • If you purchased your extra baggage allowance online by your credit card prior to 4 hours of your flight departure time, you will get Emirates significant discounts.

  • If you would like to start the process, simply log in and press on “Manage a booking” option through Emirates website with your booking reference number. 

  • Your purchase is only acceptable when your ticket is issued by Emirates, and your itinerary flights are operated and marketed also by Emirates.

Uncommon pieces of baggage and special allowances

Allowances for passengers with disabilities 

  • These passengers are eligible to have excess baggage allowances for free, for instance, fully collapsible wheelchairs, braces or crutches and assistance dogs.

 

Pets

  • You are not allowed to transport any kinds of pets, except for falcons on flights between Dubai and some destinations in Pakistan.

  • Pets are transported as cargo or checked baggage.

Sports Equipment 

  • You are allowed to carry any kind of sports equipment, like golf equipment, bicycles and ski equipment within your checked baggage as long as you contact Emirates call center at least one day prior to your departure flight time as special packaging rules may apply.


Weight Concept and Piece Concept

  • You are not permitted to carry any items as checked baggage which size exceed 300cms. Such items will be transported as cargo or freight with no exceptions.

  • Excess baggage rates will apply when your total baggage weight or number of bags along with your sporting equipment is over your standard baggage allowance.

 

SCUBA equipment 

  • The accepted equipment are the following: diving suits, flippers, masks, snorkels, buoyancy control devices and empty air tanks.

 

Ski equipment

  • A snow ski equipment pack usually includes:

  • 1 pair of skis, 1 pair of ski poles and one pair of ski boots, or 1 snowboard and 1 pair of boots.

  • A water ski equipment pack usually includes:

  • 1 pair of standard water skis, or 1 slalom water ski.

  1. What am I supposed to do if I lost a property onboard?

If you have forgotten a property onboard, you can contact the lost property office at your destination airport where you will get the help from the customer service agents

If your destination is Dubai, you can contact Dubai airport.

 

  1. What steps should I take if my luggage is delayed?

If you searched for your baggage and could not find it at the terminal, you can go to the airport baggage services desk where you are able to fill a Property Irregularity Report (PIR).

With the help of the unique reference number found on the report, you can track your baggage or check its status through Emirates Delayed luggage page.

When the baggage is received, the airline will contact you to agree on a delivery time.

 

  1. What if I am having a connecting flight, will my luggage get transferred accordingly?

If you are having a connecting flight in Dubai but for less than a complete day, your baggage will be carried to your final destination. 

You are not able to reach your bags in transit unless it is reported by the airport staff.

 

  1. What are the security procedures for flights to the USA, Canada and the UK?

If you are having flights to either the USA, Canada or the UK, you need to switch on your electronic devices at Dubai airport as required by these countries’ authorities.

Screening will be done on your hand bags at the boarding gates for flights departing to any of these destinations.

 

  1. What if my bags got damaged in transit?

In the case of luggage damage in transit, you can go to an Emirates representative or the baggage services desk at the airport and file a claim.

In case you left the airport before filling the related claim, you need to contact the local Emirates office within a week.
